Benoit & Marie - Happy Birthday II

We met this couple for the second time this season.  The first was at Poonamalie and the second at Merrickville.  The Happy Birthday II is a Mainship 350.  Benoit and Marie live in Montreal and enjoy boating on the RIdeau.  What sparks this couple as interesting, beyond their gentle and kind nature, is that Benoit has a passion for photography and owns a Mainship 35 - two of Denis' most favourite pass-times.

Judy & Phil Dean - Proud owners of the Schuyler Yacht Basin

We pulled in to the Schuyler Yacht Basin well after closing time on September 8th, 2008 and we were greeted by Phil Dean, the owner, who happed to be working a little late that night.  Phil helped us into our slips, made sure our power was working and provided us with TV cable cords so that we could plug into the marinas outlets.  Phil gave us a quick tour of the marina’s facilities and explained a few of the local services the town of Schuylerville had to offer.  Once Phil was sure we were settled in, we said our good nights but not before he mentioned that coffee would be on in the boaters lounge at 7am.

We spent one of our questionable weather days (the tale end of a tropical storm) at the marina where we made good use of the on-site laundry mat, morning coffee, and the boater’s lounge where we shared stories with Judy and Phil.

Schuyler Yacht Basin is a must stop for anyone traveling on the Champlain Canal (Upper Hudson River).  Phil and Judy’s attention to customer service is above and beyond the call of duty and their easy manner made us feel so welcomed for our two night stay at the marina.

Twenty-two years ago they were in the market for a boat – never boated before and decided it would be something that they could enjoy together.  They never did buy a boat, instead they went home the proud owners of a marina.  Thank goodness!  This marina is a must see and a definite stop for boaters.

Visit their website at http://www.schuyleryachtbasin.com to learn about their adventure in putting this marina together.

Phil and Judy - thank you so much for your warm hospitality and have a great time in Mexico this winter!!
